"Performance Measurement and Improvement for Healthcare Providers"- Course from Prof. Gary Young
29 April 2014, by Andrea Buekow
This one-day course will focus on state-of-the art performance measurement and analytic approaches for improving the performance of healthcare providers. The program comprises two components. One component will focus on performance measurement. A conceptual framework will be presented and discussed for selecting performance measures and assessing provider performance including key criteria for evaluating the scientific credibility of performance measures and their potential utility. Additional content will address the role and use of analytic methods including provider risk adjustment and Bayesian analytic techniques for improving the precision of performance measures. Existing measurement platforms (e.g., HEDIS) will also be discussed as well as sources of data (clinical, administrative, and fiscal) for constructing performance measures. The other component will focus on performance improvement strategies. For the second component, attention will be given to the use of provider profiling, pay-for-performance, and public performance reporting. Evidence of the effectiveness of these strategies for improving performance will be reviewed.
The course will be at Esplanade 36, room 4029/90 and starts at 9 a.m.
